01Before you leave: the mechanical checklist
A long trip on an adventure bike (Africa Twin, Ténéré 700, Tiger 900…) is not something you improvise mechanically.
Check before departure
- Engine oil: fresh oil change, new filter
- Brake pads: minimum 3 mm of material left
- Chain kit: no tight spots, correct tension
- Tyres: minimum 50 % tread, pressure set for road + trail
- Brake fluid: clear, not brown
- Coolant: level OK
- Air filter: clean

- Spark plug spanner + spare plug
- Tubeless tyre repair kit
- Spare clutch cable
- High-temperature tape
- Assorted cable ties
- Leatherman-type multi-tool
02Tracking your hours on the road
