01The budget nobody talks about

When you buy a motocross bike, you think about the price of the bike. But the real cost is everything that comes after. An active rider (30-50 outings a year) spends between €2,000 and €5,000 a year on running costs alone.

03How to bring the bill down

1. Do your own spannering — an oil change takes 20 minutes. A valve clearance check, an hour with a YouTube tutorial. You save 50-70 % of the labour cost.

2. Buy consumables in bulk — chain kits, filters and brake pads are 20-30 % cheaper when bought three at a time from the specialist sites (24MX, FX Motors, CrossMoto).

3. Track your hours properly — don't change the oil too early (wasted money) or too late (broken engine). A HOROTAG RUUVI hour meter (€129) pays for itself by keeping you off both unnecessary and overdue jobs.

4. Sell it well — a bike with a complete service log and verifiable hours sells for 10-20 % more than one with no history.
